It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Lamentations3:22–23
“Sleep on it.”
Researchers have found that to be sound advice. They believe that sleep helps people sort through facts, thoughts, and memories, providing a clearer look at the big picture upon waking. Sleep also separates reality from emotions like fear and worry, which can cloud our thinking and interfere with rational decision-making.
Scientifically speaking, sleep is good medicine. For Christians, the biological effects of sleep are outweighed by the spiritual benefits of the new day God gives us.
At the end of an exhausting day, after the worries and the pressures of life have piled high, we may lie down, feeling as though we can’t take another moment of stress.
But God’s Word tells us that His great mercy will keep our worries and problems from consuming us.
Through the never-ending compassion of God, His faithfulness is revealed a fresh each morning. We can rise with renewed vigor.
We can eagerly anticipate the new day, leaving behind the concerns of yesterday.
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me a new measure of Your mercy and compassion each day so that my concerns don’t consume me.
I rest in You and I lay my burdens at Your feet.
