AN ACCOMPLISHED, HEARTLESS WOMEN

‘Are you the king of Israel or not?’ Jezebel asked. ‘Get up and eat and don’t worry about it. I’ll get you Naboth’s vineyard!’ So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name, sealed them with his seal, and sent them to the elders and other leaders of the city where Naboth lived.”
1 Kings 21:7, 8
Why can’t I accomplish more? The question haunts me often. It’s usually attached to some form of guilty “should.” Do you feel it too? In your career, or in your family life, you have nagging feelings that you should be doing something else, definitely something more.If not something great, if not something world-changing, well . . . something . . . at least mildly significant?
Would it be all right to declare a moratorium on “doing” for a while, until we get heavily into “becoming” as the prelude to doing?
My friend Elizabeth, who is a counselor, once said to me, “We forget the miracle of who we are; we’re stuck in a culture that rewards getting ahead, but offers no incentive for getting a heart.”
Beware becoming an accomplished, heartless woman.
Jezebel had absolutely no boundaries on her ambition.
Sadly, her name became synonymous with everything you don’t want to be.
Stop for a moment this day to ask:
How is my heart becoming?
