BLESSINGS IN GRIEF

“Jesus wept.”

John 11:35

My father was so sick, ailing with several life-threatening diseases in his last days. I cried about him during those days. Was Jesus there with me? Yes, He knows grief and even weeps. And I am sure that somehow, even in grief, the Lord is working within me for spiritual growth.

At the very least, painful events in my life produce in me pity and compassion. And the world could do with a few more ounces of those holy virtues. I can’t help but feel for, and love, my fellow sufferers.

If God is at work in our sufferings, then it is the work of love-production.

Yes, perhaps God is always at work for a bit more compassion in the world—starting with me.

God is at work in all the circumstances of our lives—even the painful ones.
