The Captivator gooseberry is botanically classified as a hybrid between Ribes hirtellum and Ribes uva-crispa, officially named as Ribes uva-crispa ‘Captivator’.
Description/Taste
The Captivator gooseberry variety is about one inch in diameter, which is slightly larger than other gooseberries, and has a round teardrop shape. The outer skin turns from green to a dark reddish purple that appears to be somewhat translucent. The inner flesh has a jelly-like consistency offering a sweet flavor with lingering tart notes, an ideal ingredient for dessert dishes, jams, and jellies.
