Heard this fantastic easy recipe over the radio this week ( RSG – they called it Piet se Sonde) and I just could not wait to make it. This was the first time I made oxtail stew and it turned out great. Oxtail is one of the most underestimated products, its perfect when slowly cooked. Please try it, as this was super delicious!
Ingredients:
1 Kilogram of oxtail (Good quality is recommended)
2 packets of meat Marinade ( I used the bottled marinade, Steak and Chops from Woolworths)
3 Potatoes peeled and cubed.
250ml Cream
Method:
Using an electric slow cooker, or choose a heavy shallow casserole that has a tight cover and is just large enough to snugly hold the pieces of oxtail standing up in 1 layer.
Add the oxtails in the dish or casserole that you are using, Add the marinade, if using the packets fill it up with water that the meat is almost covered, or add the bottled marinade until the meat is almost covered and let it slow cook for at least 5-6 hours at low setting or very slow oven or on top of stove.
When almost soft add the diced potatoes and slow cook until soft and meat is almost coming off the bone.
Add the cream, mix well and serve with brown rice and salad
