Fish and chips with coleslaw

Preparation time: 15 min

Cooking time: 25 min

Serves 4-6

BATTER

250 ml (1 c) self-raising flour

pinch of salt

250 ml (1 c) ice-cold beer (lager)

FISH

80 ml (1/3 c) flour

30 ml (2 T) smoked paprika

salt and pepper

4-6 hake fillets

oil for deep-frying

TO SERVE

250 ml (1 c) mayonnaise

400 g coleslaw mix

frozen potato chips, baked according to the packet instructions

Batter: Whisk together the flour, salt and beer until the mixture is lump-free.

Fish: Mix the flour, paprika, salt and pepper in a shallow dish. Coat the fish with the seasoned flour.

Heat the oil in a deep pan or saucepan. Dip the floured fish in the beer batter and add carefully to the hot oil. Fry for 3 to 4 minutes or until golden brown.

To serve: Stir the mayonnaise into the coleslaw mix. Serve the fish with the hot chips and coleslaw.
