Serves 8
Ingredients
• 1-1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak tips or cubed stew meat
• 6 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
• 1 1/4 cup whole milk or cream, divided
• 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
• 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
• 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 2 tablespoons garlic powder, divided
• kosher salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
Directions
1. Bring a large pot of cold, salted water to boil and add potatoes. Cook for 15-18 minutes, or until tender.
2. Preheat oven to 350º F and combine flour, 1 tablespoon garlic powder, salt and pepper in a shallow bowl.
3. Dredge steak tips in flour mixture and coat all sides.
4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and, when hot, add steak tips. Brown on all sides.
Note: make sure to not move the steak too much so you get a nice sear.
5. Add Worcestershire sauce to steak and cook for another 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and transfer to baking dish, reserving baking liquids.
6. Return skillet to heat and add remaining flour and 1/4 cup milk to make a gravy (optional). Whisk until smooth.
7. Drain potatoes and mash them until desired consistency is reached. Mix in remaining milk, butter and garlic powder, and season with salt and pepper.
8. Pour gravy into baking dish, over steak tips, then cover with an even layer of mashed potatoes, spread from edge to edge.
9. Place baking dish in oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until lightly browned.
10. Remove from oven and serve hot!
