“. . . People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD
looks at a person’s thoughts and intentions.”
1 Samuel 16:7
• I remember preparing for our first beach trip following our daughter’s birth. As I hauled playpen, table-mounted high chair, electric swing, and assorted bags onto our front porch early that morning, a car slowly kept passing the house. On the third drive-by, a woman rolled down her window and yelled, “What time does your yard sale start?” I was shocked. There I stood in my gown in the predawn hours, packing for a beach trip—and this woman thought I was holding a yard sale! Embarrassed, I set her straight. “But it looks like a yard sale,” she insisted. Reality isn’t always what it appears at first glance. And when it comes to human hearts, our perceptions truly differ from God’s. Only with God’s help can we catch a vision of the real, inner picture. Therefore, let’s assume the best of all we meet today, regardless of what first meets our eyes. When I look, let me truly see.
