“Whatever is good and perfect comes to us from God above.”
James 1:17
• My daughter, Amanda, kept begging for a puppy. I kept saying, “No! We already have two dogs, and that’s enough.” Finally, in exasperation, I prayed, “Lord, she wants a dog so much. If You think she should have a puppy, please send us one.” I had in mind a little lap dog for the house, but our neighbors called soon after to say they had found a litter of St. Bernard puppies out in their pasture. Would we like to pick one out? What a sense of humor God has! Max (short for Maximus Dogimus) has been a wonderful addition to our family. Even at 150 pounds, he still likes to climb into my lap to take a nap. So often we think we know what’s best for us and our children. But God’s gifts go far beyond our understanding—right into perfection. Ask God what He wants for you . . . and expect something big.
