“My dear Martha, you are so upset over all these details!
There is really only one thing worth being concerned about.
Mary has discovered it—and I won’t take it away from her.”
Luke 10:41–42 (NIV)
• “Lizzy, Lizzy you are worried and upset about many things. . . .” My heart understood what the Lord meant. Another failed relationship had me fussing and crying. While I was reading about Jesus’ friend Martha, she reminded me of . . . me. Martha had a lot of things going on too. She was upset about dishes and chores—and about Mary’s not doing her part to help. I think there was more to it though. As a child, did Martha envision her adult life living with her siblings, Lazarus and Mary? Probably not. Like me, Martha probably thought she would be married by now. Whether my speculation is right or not, Jesus knew the true root of Martha’s frustrations. Just like He knows yours and mine. Question is, will we stop long enough for His teaching and comfort? Sitting at Jesus’ feet, can there be a better place to find peace in our lives?
