“If you had one hundred sheep, and one of them strayed away and was lost in the wilderness, wouldn’t you leave the ninety-nine others
to go and search for the lost one until you found it?
And then you would joyfully carry it home on your shoulders.”
Luke 15:4–5
• At a women’s retreat, the keynote speaker asked all of us to close our eyes and think back to our childhood. I found myself judging the child I used to be: “What a crummy kid, unlovely in every way.” I didn’t want to remember her or see her. Then I sensed these words in my heart: “You weren’t bad, just lost.” Suddenly I could see what Jesus meant when He spoke about the Good Shepherd going to fnd His lost sheep. He didn’t say, “There you are, you bad, dirty sheep!” No, He said, “Great! I’ve found you! Let Me carry you back home and heal your wounds.” Later at home I took out a childhood snapshot, hung it up on my wall, and blessed the beautiful little girl God had made. How thankful I am that He found me . . . and took me in, just as I am. See yourself through the Searcher’s eyes.
