“Go and sin no more.”
John 8:11
• I sat in the church board meeting and couldn’t believe I actually heard the words spoken aloud. I knew it was the prevailing attitude in our small congregation, yet someone actually had the temerity to voice it: “But we’ve always done it that way before!” I don’t agree it’s a good reason to keep things going according to the status quo. Yet, if I’m honest, I find myself living by the principle almost daily. I, like some folks, dislike change. And even more daunting than a congregational procedural change is the challenge to let go of some personal habit or secret desire hindering our spiritual growth. What is it for you? “Go and sin no more” is something we will all hear from the Lord regularly in our lives. But when we truly meet Jesus, change is not only possible, it is virtually guaranteed. No matter what change is needed, God promises the strength to make it happen. —
