“ Nazareth! ” exclaimed Nathanael. “ Can anything good come from there?"
John 1:46
• Someone once said, “The trouble with most of us is that we’d rather be ruined by praise than loved by criticism.” Jesus experienced plenty of criticism, even from those who would become His most loyal followers. When Nathanael first heard where Jesus came from, his reaction was negative. He had to see, first- hand, what Jesus was all about before his attitude would do an about-face. A lady was once asked how many active members were in her Sunday school class. “Forty,” she replied. “Twenty for me and twenty against me.” Opposition is common to Kingdom workers, so we must prepare for it and practice standing firm. Yet it helps to remember that we can learn from criticism. Though it’s painful having our motives questioned, it can be devastating never to have our actions questioned. Prepare for criticism by determining to learn from it.
