Ingredients
10-15 pieces of blade beef pieces 1 packet of Dhal/ Red Lentils soaked in a liter of water for 1 hour 2 onions finely chopped 3 cardamon pods 3 stick cinnamon 3 tablespoons of freshly grated or chopped garlic 2 teaspoons of turmeric 3 tablespoons of roasted masala ( I use Pakco masala) 1 tablespoon of Paprika 1 tablespoon of mustard powder Salt to taste 3 tablespoons of oil 1/2 a teaspoon of sugar
Method
Heat the oil in a large pot and add your onions , meat and cardamon and cinnamon sticks , Braise till almost brown and add your garlic , cook for a few minutes , now add some hot water and cook on medium heat until meat is almost tender , add all your spices , sugar and salt and Braise for a few minutes , make sure to stir to prevent sticking , now add a cup of hot water and cook and stir on medium heat for 5-10 minutes . Now get rid of the water where the Dhal/ Red lentils has been soaking in and add the Dhal to the pot , giving a stir , now add 3 cups of hot water and cook until the dhal is soft and mushy , ensuring to stir occasionally . This will take about 20-25 minutes. Delicious .
My tip - if you are making or have some in the fridge , the sweet and sour vinegar from your onion slaai/ Sambal , take about 2-3 tablespoons of the sweet sour vinegar only and add to you curry while simmering . Makes all the difference . So delicious
