“There are many rooms in my Father’s home,
and I am going to prepare a place for you. . . .”
John 14:2
• For too long we had lived in church-provided housing. Now, nearing retirement, we needed our own place. As we headed back home after a day of unsuccessful home-searching, we felt like singing the ditty, “Somewhere there’s a place for us.” Yes, we believe God has prepared a place for us. If not a retirement home here, then most certainly a real place in our Heavenly Father’s house. A sense of place has been important to humans from the beginning. The Garden of Eden, a perfectly prepared place, had everything needed for a good life: food and shelter, beauty and fellowship, spiritual communion with God. Eden also had its restrictions, for it was a place of protection established for the good of God’s creatures. On Earth for a limited time, and in Heaven for eternity, we can rest assured in God’s place prepared for our good. Wherever God is, you can be at home. —
