“Just say a simple, ‘Yes, I will,’ or ‘No, I won’t.’ Your word is enough. To strengthen your promise with a vow shows that something is wrong.”
Matthew 5:37
• “Just do what you say you’re going to do, Mom!” my son Tim said. I’d done it again: made a promise, then couldn’t keep it. (Or simply forgot to keep it.) I’ve sometimes been caught up short upon suddenly remembering what I said I’d do—and then staring at the half- finished project, along with disappointed others. They trusted my words; I let them down. A woman of integrity must “walk the talk.” In fact, our integrity (or lack of it) reveals the depth of our relationship with Jesus. What words of promise or commitment have you uttered in the last few weeks? And how well are you following through on your pronouncements? Let your promises be few—and kept.
