“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud.”
1 Corinthians 13:4
• “How are things going with you these days?” What a relief it can be to a hurting person to have a teacher, coworker, or neighbor inquire sincerely about our situation. If we gently stick with the question after a few polite responses, we usually find real needs pouring our way. What does being available to others like that mean to you? It can be a real act of love to ask and listen in this way, because it is a patient, kind way to treat people. As St. Augustine once put it, “What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has the eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear sighs and sorrows.” Suppose you were to watch for signs of people in distress today?
