“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.”
Psalm 46:1
• With light steps, Lila strolled into the department-store elevator, swinging her shopping bags. Pushing the button for her floor, she watched the doors close and then turned to gaze at the other passenger in the car. The man gave her a threatening glare. Lila’s breath froze in her throat as goose bumps lined her arms with a chill. Danger lurking in the air, Lila clutched her purse and shopping bags a little tighter. She began to pray. As she silently beckoned God, she felt His presence. As she continued to pray, the hostile atmosphere seemed to evaporate. The elevator doors eased apart, and Lila strode safely away. At times, any of us can face circumstances that render us weak-kneed and frightened. Like Lila, we are not alone. God is near; it is for us to perk up our awareness and simply be there with Him. In a flash of thought, you sense God’s loving presence, and experience His peace.
