CUP OF COMFORT: Useless Trust?

“If Christ was not raised, then all our preaching is useless,

and your trust in God is useless.”

1 Corinthians 15:14

• To think that Jesus remained in the tomb like any other religious leader in history—what a picture of “useless trust”! But what would a living hope look like? We might simply look to the Cross, where an eternal battle has already been won on our behalf. Now we hopefully await that victory’s full manifestation at Christ’s return. Many Christians weekly recite that hope in these words from the Book of Common Prayer: Christ has died. Christ has risen. Christ will come again. Memorize this powerful declaration; it’s everything you need in order to have trust and hope—a useful trust and a living hope—right now. How futile living without hope can be!
