“No matter how deep the stain of your sins,
I can remove it. I can make you as clean as freshly fallen snow.
Even if you are stained as red as crimson,
I can make you as white as wool.”
Isaiah 1:18
• “You’re getting warmer,” I told my oldest daughter as she crawled out from behind a wing chair and paused in front of the fireplace. It was Easter morning, and Kate was the only one of our girls still hunting for her basket. I always tried to come up with new hiding places each year, and I was pleased with the unique spot I’d found for hers. “I see it,” said Kate, reaching into the fireplace. Her face fell, and I cringed as we looked at her basket of soggy candy. It was covered with black spots and droplets of moisture. Even the yellow bow was stained and droopy. I hugged Kate, apologizing. It had rained overnight, and the fuse had been left open. Over breakfast our family talked about Mommy’s mistake. “My candy’s ruined,” said Kate. “Too bad Jesus can’t wash it clean like He did to us when He died on the cross.” Out of the mouths of babes come wise words.
