Quick buttermilk chocolate cake

This quick buttermilk chocolate cake is perfect for chilly Autumn days.
Makes 1 big cake 16-20 servings Preparation time: 25 min Cooking time: 35 min

Cake
500 ml (2 c) self-raising flour
2 ml (½ t) salt
2 ml (½ t) ground cinnamon
500 ml (2 c) sugar
250 g butter or margarine
250 ml (1 c) water
80 ml (¹∕³ c) cocoa powder
2 eggs
125 ml (½ c) buttermilk
5 ml (1 t) bicarbonate of soda
5 ml (1 t) vanilla essence
Topping
250 g icing sugar
125 ml (½ c) cocoa powder
75 g butter
80 ml (¹∕³ c) buttermilk
Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease a deep oven dish or 20 x 30 cm roasting pan.
1. Cake: Sift flour, salt and cinnamon and add sugar.
2. Bring the butter or margarine, water and cocoa powder to boiling point in a small saucepan. Remove from the heat and leave to cool. Pour over the dry ingredients.
3. Whisk the eggs, buttermilk, bicarbonate of soda and essence. Add to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
4. Spoon batter into the pan. Bake for about 35 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the middle comes out clean.
5. Topping: Heat the ingredients until melted and well combined. Pour over the cake as it comes out of the oven. Leave to cool.
