“God has made everything beautiful for its own time.”
Ecclesiastes 3:11
• Nine men were trapped underground for days in a flooded Pennsylvania mine. The rescue crew quickly started using a 1,500-pound drill, but the bit broke, and rescue efforts were stalled for an additional eighteen hours. The men underground, now in the deafening silence, could only wait. What seemed tragic at the time turned out to be a blessing. Experts later revealed that the huge drill bit would have poked into the small air hole the men were using to breathe; water would have cascaded in and drowned them. The eighteen-hour delay gave the water time to subside, allowing all the men—eventually—to be saved! Our waiting times are excruciating—and usually for a reason. We cannot possibly know what God is up to when all seems silent. We can know, however, that He wills our best— and stays ever so close. God’s timing has a perfection that’s beautiful.
