“I am nothing—how could I ever find the answers?
I will put my hand over my mouth in silence.”
Job 40:4
• Ever stood perfectly still in a place of light, silence, and openness? I stood on a Colorado mountain ridge overlooking a vast plain—and felt I could stay there forever. I listened to the birds, and that was all. What does it take not to just listen to the sounds of the birds but to be there with them? What does it mean to be where you are? I have a friend who tells me, “Where you is, is where you is.” She’s trying to make the point that if I’m always on my cell phone, I’m somewhere else. If I’m videotaping my experience, I’m not truly having the experience. As strange as it sounds, we should practice this: Be where you are! If I can, I’ll break out of this room sometime today and take a walk. I’ll look for light and space and open my soul for a morsel of peace. God is present to you; be present to Him.
