Just Passing Through

“We are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives.

And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.”

Philippians 3:20

• Have you ever experienced homesickness? Oh, the heartache, the tears, the drama! But what about “heavenly homesickness”—the feeling that there must be a better place than good ole Planet Earth? Bob Hartman of the rock band Petra says it right when he says we are “pilgrims in a strange land . . . so far from our homeland” (“Not of this World.” 1983). No wonder the Christian worldview seems alien at times. Today’s Scripture reminds us of our special hope that keeps this mortal life in proper perspective. We’re on a journey, just passin’ through. And as citizens of heaven, we’re a long way from home. Do not become overly attached to all the things of your life; another existence awaits you.
