“He touched her, and instantly she could stand straight.
How she praised and thanked God!”
Luke 13:3
• What works best when you need help or consoling? A few choice words of pithy advice? A well-stated admonition? A systematic review of the reasons why you might feel downhearted? It’s likely that none of these methods will reach in and soothe your aching heart the way a wordless touch can. Warm contact helps heal the part of us that does not respond to mere reason. Words certainly have their place in our relationships. But there is a time and place, too, for the wordless touch. We won’t be able to demand that kind of touch from any- one today. However, the great thing about touching is that when we are open to giving it, we often find it coming our way, too, usually just when we need it. Be alert to a friend or a child who needs your gentle touch today.
