“Now let your unfailing love comfort me, just as you promised me, your servant.”
Psalm 119:76
• Okay, I’ll admit it; I have a thing about pillows. Sofas, beds, chairs—at my house, pillows abound there in different sizes, textures, and patterns. I’ve even arranged as many as nine against our headboard. But who’s counting when it comes to comfort? Inevitably, guests adjust them, kids toss them, my husband crams them beneath bad knees. Fido nips a cushion’s corner, trailing stuffing. But I like to keep them just right. Not that I begrudge anyone comfort, but I also want order restored. My order. (I wonder, is there a Decorators Anonymous?) Isn’t it so often the minor irritations that leave our emotions threadbare? And sometimes it’s much easier to focus on things than on people. That’s when our priorities, like my scattered pillows, can use a gentle rearranging. Our Comforter, the Spirit, invites us to lie back, breathe deep, rest awhile.
