“He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.”
Psalm 40:2
• It is mid-October, and the petunias outside our front door are now robust bushes of beautiful blossoms. Previously, due to the summer’s record-breaking rainfall, their spindly stalks and limp buds seemed to defy any future life. Now, in the middle of fall, with the welcome arrival of the sun, they are bursting with vitality. I’ve felt a kinship with these scrawny plants because this past summer had brought an excess of “rain” into my life, as well. The resilience of the petunias encouraged me as I doggedly fought simply to exist in the midst of the storm. Now looking down at my personal rainbow of purple, soft yellow, and dusty pink, I have renewed hope. I can sense God’s comforting presence, and I know my time to blossom will surely come. God always creates a path through the diffcult places.
