“I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection! But I keep working toward that day when I will finally be all that Christ Jesus saved me for and wants me to be.”
Philippians 3:12
• “You have the right to make mistakes,” said my friend, “and to make them your teachers.” What a great way to put it! Rather than wallow in guilt, probably the best thing we can do now is to reframe our mistakes. Guilt keeps our minds focused on the original error and so compounds that error, over and over again, perhaps for an entire lifetime. What a waste of precious energy! Reframing mistakes means determining to think about them in ways that dissolve their devastating qualities. Instead of seeing them as terrible disasters, we begin to view them as normal and natural results of the courage to make decisions and take risks. I realize that I can and will make mistakes. But I’m learn- ing to refuse to allow them to call into judgment my personal self-worth. Your value to God always exceeds the sum of your mistakes.
