“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”
Hebrews 6:19a
• We were waiting in a cafeteria line at one of the Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C. My two-year-old son was holding on to my hand when he suddenly turned around and let go to get closer to his grandpa. But as he turned away from his daddy and me, he panicked. He couldn’t see us anymore. Though Grandpa and Grandma were right there, he thought his parents had deserted him. The funny thing was, we were anchored to the spot; we never moved. Sometimes we forget God’s settled presence with us, this anchor for our souls. We turn away and panic because we think we’ve been left on our own. Has God indeed moved away when our need is the greatest? No, God never moves away. In hindsight we may well see that we did some ill-advised wandering. What is more enduring than the love of God for you?
