“May he grant your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans.”
Psalm 20:4
• Suppose I choose to live a life of faith (which will involve plenty of risky decisions along the way), and I thereby miss out on all kinds of fun, fulfilling, satisfying things and experiences? At times, when I compare my life to a successful friend’s life, I’ve wondered what I did wrong here. She’s a star in the business spotlight; I’m working backstage. She’s driving an expensive luxury vehicle, while my ’91 Hyundai sits at the local Wall Mart with a dead battery. Did I really sign up for this character- building adventure? That thought has crossed my mind occasionally. Are God’s plans for us always in our very best interest? Couldn’t we devise a more self-fulfilling life on our own? Yet, to be convinced of God’s goodwill toward me is the only way I can be moved to live a life of holy risk, of faith in Him. And where did I ever get the idea that God’s will and mine must always be separate and necessarily at odds? Would it be possible to come to the blessed place in which I finally see that “what God gives” is exactly the same as “what is the very best for me”? Celebrate God’s involvement in the unfolding drama of your life’s adventure.
