“How can I curse those whom God has not cursed?
How can I condemn those whom the LORD has not condemned?”
Numbers 23:8
• I was out of work. That, I could deal with. But I’d been fired without notice, and in spite of a good performance history, the company refused to pay my unemployment compensation. Did I want to lash out? Yes. I had never been fired before; I was hurt and disillusioned. But shortly thereafter, I attended a Christian writers conference and heard a speaker make this point: “Good writers don’t write, they rewrite.” That hit home, and I could apply it to almost anything. For instance, “Good Christians don’t live the Christian example, they relive it.” Or, “Good workers don’t just find employment, they get re-employed.” And by rethinking, we begin to see new possibilities. I chose not to curse the injustice. I sought another position, and God used the difficulty to steer me into a job where my skills were put to better use. That, I could deal with! Others may be at fault; we choose how to respond.
