“The words of the wicked are like a murderous ambush,
but the words of the godly save lives.”
Proverbs 12:6
• Beverly was ten years old and in the fifth grade. Her family was in the lower income bracket in those days, so she wore skirts fashioned from feed sacks. One day, a girl sitting close to her in school told the teacher that Beverly had taken ten cents from her desk. Instead of taking Beverly aside, the teacher accused her in front of the other students with heart-stinging words. Beverly was poor, but she wasn’t a thief. This verbal ambush happened fifty-five years ago, but it created a hurt that has lasted through the years. Beverly long ago forgave the teacher, but when she thinks of the fifth grade, that painful memory blows through her mind like a chill north wind. God will help us to choose our words wisely.
