“In the future you will see me, the Son of Man, sitting at God’s right hand in the place of power and coming back on the clouds of heaven.”
Matthew 26:64
• In one of C. S. Lewis’s fiction books for children, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Aslan the Lion is a God figure. Little Lucy contemplates what it will be like to meet him, asking, “Is he . . . quite safe?” The answer comes: “’Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.” In another part of the book, we read, “At the name of Aslan, each one of the children felt something jump in his inside. Edmund felt a sensation of mysterious horror.” It makes me think: What is it about God, or the life God has given me—so risky and unsafe—that I need to face squarely today? Isn’t it better to stay in direct contact with hard truth than to slide through life clinging to sentimental self-deceptions? Jesus will return as Savior . . . and Judge. —
