Ingredients
1 kg of steak mince 1 large onion finely chopped 3 garlic cloves peeled and finely chopped 1teaspoon of salt 2 teaspoons of turmeric 1 tablespoon of roasted masala ( I use Pakco roasted masala) 1 teaspoon of paprika 1 tablespoon of mustard powder 1 teaspoon of chili powder 2 tablespoons of fruit chutney 1 tablespoons of vinegar 1 tablespoon of fine apricot jam 2 tablespoons of cooking oil 4 slices of white bread soaked in a cup of milk 1 cup of milk 2 eggs 5 bay leaves A few teaspoons of butter
Method
Cook onions with oil in a large pot for about 10 minutes on medium heat - add your garlic salt and spices - cook for 5 minutes - now add your steak mince , vinegar , jam and Chutney - stir and cook for a few minutes - add 1 cup of hot water and cook until most all the water has cooked away , stirring occasionally - this will take +- 30 minutes - Now remove the pot from stove - squeeze bread from milk and add to mince mixture stirring till well combined - Place in a baking dish - Now whisk 2 eggs with the cup of milk and pour over the mince mix - place a few dollops / cubes of butter and bay leaves on top - Bake in a pre-heated oven for 30 minutes at 190deg .
Serve with Sweet yellow rice and veggies -
Please note that this dish is a basic mild Mince curry mix with a sweet and sour note added with soaked bread or breadcrumbs so you may change your spices to your taste - baked with a custard poured over it - It's that simple - You may add raisins or dried peaches to your mince mix when cooking - Optional .
