OLD-FASHIONED ROCK CANDY You will need a measuring cup and spoon, saucepan, mixing spoon, glass jar, string, Popsicle or other stick, paper clip and 1 cup sugar and 4 tablespoons of water. Put the sugar and water in the saucepan. Heat, stirring, only until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Cut a piece of string 2 inches longer than the height of the jar. Tie one end around the stick. Tie the paper clip to the other end. Lay the stick across the top of the jar with the string suspended.

Pour the sugar solution into the jar and let it stand undisturbed for about 2 weeks while sugar crystals form around the string.
