“Everyone will run until exhausted, rushing back to their own lands
like hunted deer, wandering like sheep without a shepherd.”
Isaiah 13:14
• Rushing . . . wandering . . . exhausted. This verse was me! I came to a point in my life when I recognized that my personal needs and desires were strangers to me. This was new and scary. My goals and plans had always come from the outside, from the others I sought to please. Now, no one was telling me what to do with my life. I was goal-less, depressed—busy with living, but not engaged with life. Strangely enough, in the midst of busyness, we may discover that we have nothing very important to be busy about. At those times, we may need to explore where we are headed, and why. We’ve become like a ship without a port of call. We keep bumping off various relational islands, shouting, “Tell me, everybody—is this it? Or this? What do I really want?” The worst form of busyness is the kind that keeps our destination unfocused.
