“Pay all your debts, except the debt of love for others. You can never finish paying that! If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill all the requirements of God’s law.” Romans 13:8
• We have lived in the same house for almost twenty years. So I can’t understand why, when it comes to cleaning the house and mowing the lawn, everything suddenly seems larger. It takes me longer to perform even routine tasks. Could it be that I’m getting older and slowing down? Perhaps I must refine my priorities more closely. Do I continue to teach Sunday school, even though dust clings to the living room furniture? Do I talk with a friend in need, even though the carpet begs to be vacuumed? Do I drive a relative to the hospital for tests, though the bathroom needs painting? I would love to live in a picture-perfect house—spic and span—with a beautifully manicured lawn. But then, how many people in my world are too distressed to even notice? What can I do for them instead? May you wisely use the time and energy you’re given.
