“How quickly I would escape— far away from this wild storm.”
Psalms 91:4
• A crack of thunder jolted me awake as it rattled through the walls. A quick flash followed, as did a muffed scurrying of feet that stopped by my bedroom door. “Mommy,” a quivering voice whispered. “I’m scared. Can I sleep in here with you and Daddy?” “Sure, honey, come on in,” I whispered back. A pillow and favorite blanket plopped on the floor next to me. One down, two to go. The next resounding boom brought my other two rushing into the room with their pillows and blankets. Within a few minutes their restlessness gave way to peaceful sleep. We couldn’t stop the storm, but my children felt a sense of safety and comfort in just knowing we were there. Likewise, in the frightening, dark moments of our lives, in a world so filled with violence and hatred, God’s presence wraps us up and holds us tight so we can rest, safe and content in Him. God’s presence covers you like a soft, warm blanket on a cold, stormy night.
