“I don’t want you to forget, dear brothers and sisters, what happened to our ancestors in the wilderness long ago. God guided all of them by sending a cloud that moved along ahead of them, and he brought them all safely
through the waters of the sea on dry ground.”
1 Corinthians 10:1
• A close friend says I have a little cloud over my head, like a cartoon character bound for tough times. Another claims, “God gives you such marvelous things to write about!” The things to which they both refer are hardly “marvelous” to me. For example, my first trip abroad found me wailing in the middle of the Cairo Airport with a lost ticket. And this happened after the hotel misplaced my luggage. And the trip to my first writer’s conference? From the moment the train did the chow-chow-chow at the railroad station, until the limousine’s fat tire, the cloud followed me. But it is that same cloud that follows me, and that gives me such wonderful stories to tell, that has also led me into a marvelous relationship with God! The presence of the Lord is our rear guard.
