“. . . We are his people and the sheep of his pasture.”
Psalm 100:3
• “Sammy is hurt, Mom,” my teen son cried. The black wool on the sheep’s belly was covered with blood. He had gotten too frisky at the barbed-wire fence surrounding the pasture. Watching my son tenderly stroking the injured animal reminded me of the picture of Jesus as the Good Shepherd who carries the sheep on His shoulders. We carried Sammy to the vehicle and transported him to a veterinarian for treatment. After a bit of surgery, he was as good as new. Sometimes we, as God’s people, need TLC to restore a wounded spirit, a broken heart, or a painful loss. The Good Shepherd enters the pasture of our experience in various ways to bear us up. It may be through another of His sheep, His people, to encourage and comfort in our time of need. Such occasions will teach us how to do likewise for others when the need arises. Follow him from the pastures of care into the places of ministry.
