“There the child grew up healthy and strong.
He was filled with wisdom beyond his years,
and God placed his special favor upon him.”
Luke 2:40
• “Mom, I have to do a science project,” said Ricky, my fifth grader, as he slid his backpack onto the kitchen table. “I want to see if one environment is better than others for plants,” he explained. His plan was simple. Choose three healthy plants, place each in a different environment, record their health and growth. He placed the first plant in front of a bay window where it received the morning light. He kept the soil moist. The second, he set in a room with no light, just water. And the third, he put in a closet with no light or water. You can guess which plant thrived. Jesus grew up “there”—in a family environment of love and caring. He grew healthy and strong, just as we wish our own children to grow. But will you determine to satisfy a child’s thirst for love and affirmation today? Strong and healthy children are daily nourished by love and truth.
