Out of Temptation

“God is faithful.
He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that
you can’t stand up against it.
When you are tempted,
he will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13
• I stared at my checkbook and wondered what to do. Car repairs and lowered income had left us with three unpaid bills for the month—and a depleted account. Payday? Another two weeks. However, as director of a local writing organization, I held the organization’s checking account. . . . You guessed it. I was tempted to “borrow”—just to keep our insurance intact, our water flowing, and a few groceries in the refrigerator. I cried and prayed for strength, pleading for a way out of our financial mess. That afternoon, the mail came with an envelope from the headquarters of the very organization I was directing. And inside the envelope—a Visa gift card! The note said, “Thanks for all you do!” It seems each director received this card, but I wonder, could any of them say theirs was a true way out of temptation, an answer direct from God? When temptation imprisons you, remember: God engineers surprising escapes.
