“You alone are the LORD. You made the skies and the heavens and all the stars.
You made the earth and the seas and everything in them.
You preserve and give life to everything, and all the angels of heaven worship you.”
Nehemiah 9:6
• My grandson hardly waited for me to put my suitcase down before grabbing my hand and rushing me to his bedroom. “You’ve got to see this, Grandma!” He talked excitedly while closing the door. “Sit down right here.” I sat cross-legged where he instructed—facing the wall. He made sure the curtains were drawn and the door tightly closed. Then he turned off the lights and came to sit in my lap. As he pointed out the different glow-in-the-dark stars that decorated his room, I asked him questions and matched his enthusiasm, star for star. Not wanting to miss a teachable moment, I whispered, “Isaac, do you know who made the stars?” Isaac froze. Slowly he turned to me. “Grandma,” he said, his tone suggesting the reluctant delivery of sad news, “these aren’t real stars.” I half expected him to pat my hand in consolation. “But . . . God made the real ones.” Remember what is real, what is not, and who made it all.
