“He breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost.”
John 20:22 (KJV)
• “When something breathes beside you in the darkness,” said C. S. Lewis, “. . . it is always shocking to meet life when we thought we were alone. ‘Look out!’ we cry, ‘it’s alive.’ ” I often had that “yikes!” feeling after working the late- night shift at AM 1000 WCFL radio in Chicago. Done with my on-air shift at 2:00 in the morning, I had to leave the studio by a back entrance—and walk through a field in pitch darkness. Strangely, that field was full of rabbit holes! When I opened the back door, and the light hit scores of early-morning feeders, they all ran for cover. It was kind of creepy to hear the sudden, rustling sounds of life in that dark stillness. It makes me think of the real, living Holy Ghost who lives inside me. When I turn on the light of my heart to “see” Him there . . . it’s almost shocking. The Spirit is alive and active within us.
