Just Turn Your Thoughts

• When we packed up to go away to college as newly married teenagers, I was moving far away from my home. I’d been born and raised in the same little house in small-town Florida, living there until I got married. Then my husband and I soon moved to downtown Chicago. So many firsts for me there—first time seeing snow, first time riding a subway train, first time walking down an urban street, looking straight ahead . . . and not smiling at anybody walking toward me. Everything seemed different: the culture, the weather, the faces. And so many times I cried out to God, feeling like an alien from another planet. How precious it was to be reminded: My Heavenly Father is right here in my heart. He remains—dwells there—forever, no matter where my travels may take me next. You are as close, dear Father, as my decision to turn my thoughts to You.
