Crushed Under Her Own Plans

“Humble yourselves under the mighty power of God,

and in his good time he will honor you.”

1 Peter 5:6

• The headline read, “130lb Woman Crushed Under 10,000lb Plans.” Apparently, this poor woman’s plans sat in a huge stack of paperwork. When she tried to retrieve them, the entire 10,000-pound stack fell over and killed her. Today’s Scripture calls us to bow our lives and our plans to the Lord. That is humility. Care to guess what the opposite of humility is? You got it, pride. When we try to lift ourselves with our self-made plans, we’re heading into a danger zone. When we pursue personal satisfaction at the expense of others, we may be crushed by our own selfishness. Next time you make yourself crazy with planning how to get into or out of a situation, try this: Picture yourself bowing under an enormous hand, and wait for that hand to lift you up before you do anything else by yourself. God invites us into honorable planning for the Kingdom.
