“Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and
who correctly explains the word of truth.”
2 Timothy 2:15
• Nine-year-old Ben held up his hand after my husband and I finished our Vacation Bible School lesson. “Is that really in the Bible?” he asked. I read the Scripture aloud, but he still doubted. “Let me see,” he said. I handed him the Bible to read the rather obscure story for himself. Ben wasn’t the only one who wanted to see the printed word. One of the teachers, a Bible-college graduate, leaned over Ben’s shoulder to read. “I don’t remember ever hearing that story,” she said. What a responsibility we have! The Scripture above admonishes us to know, and correctly explain, the Word of truth. For we never know when a child—or anyone else seeking spiritual things—may say, “Prove it to me!” Let’s be ready to explain what we believe—and why.
