“I command you—be strong and courageous!
Do not be afraid or discouraged.
For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
• Peanuts character Charlie Brown said, “I’m only going to dread one day at a time.” To what extent is fear robbing you of joy, day by day? Thankfully, we can decide what to do with our fears, and our choice will make all the difference. I think of all the things some people do, things I’d surely be too afraid to try. Skydiving, for instance, or underwater cave exploring, or demolition-derby driving. Yet here’s the challenge: God is with us, but He’s often in another “zone,” unto which He beckons us to join Him. That is, He calls us beyond our comfort zone, one small step at a time. But those can be scary steps, and we need to take the words from Joshua deeply into our own hearts: “Be strong and courageous. . . . the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” He’s there, even beyond what’s cozy. Will you allow God to move you out of your comfort zone today—and closer to Him?
