FUDGY MACAROON CONFECTIONS

4 oz. unsweetened chocolate 1 c. butter 2 c. sugar 1 c. flour 1 tsp. vanilla 3 eggs 6 oz. pkg. (1 c.) chocolate chips

FILLING: 2 to 3 c. coconut 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 tsp. almond extract, if desired

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13 x 9 inch pan. In large saucepan over low heat, melt chocolate and butter. Remove from heat. Add sugar, flour, vanilla and eggs to chocolate mixture; mix well. Spread 1/2 of chocolate batter in pan. mix all filling ingredients well. Spoon filling over chocolate batter, spread evenly. Carefully spread remaining batter evenly over top. Bake 35 to 40 minutes until set around edges. Center will be soft. Immediately sprinkle with chocolate chips. Wait 1 minute and spread evenly over top. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup chopped nuts, if desired. Chill, then cut into bars. 4 dozen bars.
