“I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God,
through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven.”
Philippians 3:14
• I hate change. I seem to want to hold on to what I have. I don’t want to press onward. I even hate the change of seasons. I am nicely settled into this season, comfortable and satisfied. Leave it alone! (It’s a difficult attitude to maintain when you’re the wife of a farmer, depending on the cycles of the year.) Rearing children and watching them go off and make lives of their own? Stop the music; let them stay here! I feel like an actor who walked out on the wrong stage, a stage where the props are always changing. I want my scenery unmovable, well anchored, predictable. Can I live joyfully in Christ like this? No. He calls me to forget what is behind and strain onward to what is ahead. It is a special challenge for one like me. On the other hand, spring- time is coming. . . . Imagine the harvest . . . Look ahead with joy to your heavenly future.
